  • A spiritual counselor emphasizes values and practices to address personal and existential concerns whereas a marriage and family therapist focuses on relational dynamics addressing communication patterns conflicts, and systemic issues.

  • A spiritual counselor often draws from spiritual frameworks whereas a marriage and family therapist utilizes systemic and psychodynamic theories emphasizing relationship patterns, family systems, and interpersonal dynamics.

  • A spiritual counselor supports individuals in finding meaning and purpose by deepening their connection to spirituality whereas a marriage and family therapist focuses on enhancing relational functioning, improving communication, and fostering healthy family dynamics.

  • A spiritual counselor uses prayer, meditation, and guided imagery tailored to the client's spiritual preferences whereas a marriage and family therapist employs a range of evidence-based interventions designed to address relational patterns and dynamics.

Understanding Your Options

I know that starting therapy can be a very scary and even triggering step, especially within BIPOC communities, where seeking mental health support has historically been framed as weakness. Yet we now know that our healing, our liberation, and our ability to thrive as a people depends on breaking those narratives. We must heal past trauma, dismantle stigma, and move toward collective wellness so that we can stand in solidarity across the full spectrum of our identities and lived experiences.

Choosing therapy - for yourself, your family, or your relationship - is one of the bravest steps you can take. I am here to walk with you through this imperfect but transformational journey, offering a space where you are seen, safe, and supported.

We are Better Together

Addressing family issues is never easy! Sometimes it can be downright scary because children have issues with their parents; parents have issues with their children; spouses have issues with their spouse and it's all serving as a breakdown and a disassociation and dysfunction in the family unity. Sometimes, you need an unbiased third party to come in to help address these family issues. If you want to learn how to work through family conflict and rebuild relationships with the members of your family, consider our family counseling! This allows you to look at things with a wider lens and to gain clarity about it not just being a them or you issue, it's an "us" issue which we must clarify to move forward.
